Following a pair of albums on Spectral Spools, Brooklyn-based analogue outfit Forma had change in personnel as John Also Bennet replaced Sophie Lam. This in turn seemed to prompt a change in approach, demonstrated on Cool Haptics where drifting techno replaced the brilliantly textured ambient and Kosmische heard previously. 2016’s Physicalist LP witnessed a return to familiar territory, and several months since its release, Chicago label Kranky are ready to unveil a special, one-off remix from Valcrond Video boss, Luke Wyatt AKA Torn Hawk.
Wyatt is no stranger to Forma. Providing the visuals to one of their tracks in his trademark, VHS-inspired style back in 2012, this remix is just as enthralling. Washed in heartfelt chords, the Krautrock-inspired motorik rhythm of the original gets spun into a turbulent, shape-shifting landscape. It flows with a nebulous cadence and despite an erratic structure, dive-bombing electric guitar and a diverse range of manipulated synthetic sounds provide the thrills in typically cinematic fashion.
