Cutting his teeth within the hallowed walls of Lyon’s L’Ambassade, Juliano honed his craft DJing alongside the likes of Prosumer, Move D, Marcellus Pittman and Chez Damier. It wouldn’t be long before he was involved in the day-to-day running of a record label and these formative experiences certainly drove him on, eventually inspiring the rising talent to pack his bags and head to Berlin in order to start something he could call his own. That something turned out to be a brand new label and four releases deep, it was clearly the right move.
Christened ‘That Place Records’, the fledgling label had already released music from Visitors For Reworks, Sacha Mambo and Love Comedy (Akirahawks and Shingo Suwa) before the man himself took up the mantle with a 12″ of his own. Flirting with the retro-futuristism of Chicago and Detroit, That Place releases give a nod to their influencers, but not without putting down an idiosyncratic stamp that’s simultaneously full-bodied and serene. Already receiving support from revered selectors like Tim Sweeney, San Soda and Laurent Garnier, Juliano’s debut is not to be missed (check out our premiere of ‘Cupid Mess’) and we’re delighted to have him inaugurate our mix series with a potent selection.
100% vinyl, Juliano transitions between the uplifting and the menacing with effortless ease throughout his mix. Playful house cuts, jacking acid constructions and furious, head-splitting breaks, an uncompromising mixing style leaves no room for respite throughout this high-octane blend.
