Following a buy-on-sight release of Zru Vogue material on the ‘Actuelles’ sub-label, Mélodies Souterraines resumes its ongoing compilation series with a heady clutch of tracks. A cherry-picked miscellany of electronic curiosities, O/P casts the net pretty wide, spanning ambient, downtempo, IDM and synth-pop. Strong on atmospherics and emotion, both reissued material and unheard productions feature here.

The product of a brief recording session in 2015, this impending release comes sporting a contribution from Sydney’s Andy Rantzen and David Sudmalis. Wistful and introspective, the dread atmospheres subtle, ‘Barren Ground’ is part strung-out, forlorn jazz lullaby, part industrial-tinged downtempo. Luminous pads dissipating, every strained piano note hangs heavy in the air, Rantzen’s crestfallen spoken word contributing to a palpable sense of melancholy.

O/P is out April 20th on Mélodies Souterraines – pre-order direct from the label.
