Alongside the searing electro, punishing techno and mutant acid consistent with post-Soviet experimentation, Private Persons also deal in records wrought with emotion. Joining the sun-bleached lo-fi of Gazatech and Voin Oruwu’s cinematic soundscapes, enigmatic Moscow talent Art Crime arrives on the Russian label with a clutch of piano-driven house cuts telling the story of a lovelorn romantic. These are wistful, lovesick musings drenched in melancholy, but in the case of ‘Seoul’, the mood is sanguine – all brilliant melodic layers and swinging drums, the cascading piano is suspended in a state of dewy-eyed optimism and we’re left contemplating what lies ahead rather than what might have been.

Memoirs of Naive is out July 20th on Private Persons – pre-order direct from the label.
