In no hurry to put out music that’s easily forgettable, Tanguy, AKA Master Phil, the man behind self-described “French balearic label” Plaisir Partagé, has been biding his time. With only a pair releases to date on the flagship label and another two on cut and paste-focused subsidiary Edits Du Plaisir, this is a guy who clearly values quality over quantity. Following in the footsteps of recent International Feel debutant Shelter and Mothball Record’s Hysteric, complete unknowns Barnes & Wobble now step up for the latter and considering the pickiness of the Plaisir curation, its unveiling prompted us to sit up and pay attention.

Sleazy, effervescent, exhilarating and colourful in equal measure, while ‘Mama Mwen’ offers the re-edit of zouk rhythms native to the French Antilles, titular A-side cut is a slick Hi-NRG edit. Sporting politically-charged French spoken vocals and propulsive analogue percussion, it’s a fine introduction to the mysterious pairing.

Sans Algarade is out January 15th on Edits Du Plaisir – pre-order the vinyl here.
