Alex Hall’s “communicating tool for emerging mutants” – alternatively known as the Manchester-based imprint Natural Sciences – has been delivering some of the finest, most aesthetically-driven electronic sounds to grace our ears over the past two years or so. With an already impressive back catalogue that contains a widely varied batch of artists and material, Natural Sciences are looking to make 2017 a particularly special one in terms of their output; with upcoming EPs from DJ Seinfeld and Textasy already in the pipeline, the latest 12″ from Japanese producer 外神田Deepspace (AKA Aquarium) is shaping up to be as impressive an offering as anything the Mancunian label have released thus far.
Premiering exclusively here on If-Only is the A3 cut from the Welcome to Nakanotroit EP, a track titled ‘ネオトーキョー サンライス’ in its original Japanese, translating to ‘Neo Tokyo Sunrise’ in English. The tune itself is awe-inspiring. A dreamy house number, it radiates with an ecstatic sense of nocturnal wandering and the unparalleled magic of these often revelatory experiences: echoing piano keys and moreish acid lines are but some of the most encapsulating instrumentation and production. It’s a unique hybrid of styles, evoking the clash of worlds alluded to in the EP’s given name – another sure-fire victory for the progressive, globalised sounds of外神田Deepspace and the Natural Sciences crew.
Welcome to Nakanotroit is out April 8th on Natural Sciences – pre-order direct from the label.
