Ambient drifts as Given or slamming acid house under the name his mother gave him, Bari-based producer Dona Basile doesn’t seem too bothered about genre conventions. A sonic melting pot of sorts, his material borrows from various styles and the latest project, DJ Plant Texture, fuses techno and electro with razor-edged breakbeats in the glow of some gleaming pads. On the back of an interview with Manchester’s Ruf Dug covering a growing trend in ‘jungle outsiders’, it seems fitting that we get to premiere a track off the third release, arriving via Creme Organization subsidiary, Jericho One.
Channelling his inner Mickey Finn, ‘Lello From Sda’ is a frenetic but functional roller reminiscent of jungle’s ‘golden age’, circa ’94(ish). From ethereal beginnings, things quickly descend into pandemonium with truncated vocals primed to put heads in a spin punctuating the track throughout. A reprise of the opening synth swells offers a moment of respite, but it isn’t long before the breakbeats come crashing back down with even more ferocity.
