Mellifluous and melancholy, Doppelate‘s music has the sparse intimacy that suggests bedroom production. Dropping a pair of 12″s on Let’s Go Swimming and a cassette out on James Booth’s Share XL imprint, he furnished the former with buoyant house cuts, floaty excursions with just enough funk in the bassline and a weightlessness pervading the melodic elements.

It’s a theme continued on the latest outing, a four-track affair on London label X-Kalay with a twist. Alongside the anticipated sounds is ‘Jonny Longneck’, the black sheep of this flock, summoning a sense of urgency almost unheard of on a Doppelate release with its tightly-coiled conga rhythm. A dubby, sweltering DJ tool swimming in humid atmospheres, reverb and delay.

It’s Nice Here is out August 10th on X-Kalay – pre-order direct from the label.
