Soundboy’s strained call sounds stretched, warped in slowed motion then answered with a corrupted dub siren’s faltering warble. The choppy Amen hi-hats and flurries of pitched, forward-leaning snares twitch frenetic over round bass tomms, super clean. Euphoria clouds of synth-string chord-mist ebb and soar and fall, balancing the dance with sensitive melody and tempering chaos away from the dark, ruff cold.
Quebec’s Dust-e-1 and Collect-Call prove to know plenty about the darker end of the spectrum, the EP wholly presenting a fluent demonstration of nuanced, discerning jungle which might stride out alongside an old DJ Rap release on Dee Jay Recordings.
The Dust in the Dance EP is out February 26th – buy the vinyl here.
