Solidifying its reputation as a purveyor of things danceable and leftfield, Black Orpheus has released music from Madteo, FIT Siegel and J. Albert to name a few. Helmed by the mysterious Patrick Conway, the label’s curation is also indebted to the sounds of the American Midwest – rolling out sonorous, Detroit-esque techno or excavating late ’90s deep house from Chicago, it’s pretty obvious where Conway’s taking his cues from.
That theme continues on the closing gambit from J. Wiltshire‘s Black Orpheu debut, a futurist symbiosis of galactic machine funk and another of electro’s most established tropes: the cerebral. Littered with melodic flourishes of the cosmic persuasion, ‘Cymek’ is a nimble, meandering number rooted in the sounds of the Motor City.
The Semuta Music EP is out soon on Black Orpheus.
