Presenting a second helping of remixes, Emotional Rescue and Malka Tuti‘s collaborative effort to mine the back catalogue of John Rees Lewis’ C Cat Trance project continues to bear fruit.

Swiftly followed by a clutch of reinterpretations from Autarkic, JD Twitch, Sneaker and Die Orangen, it all began with Screaming Ghosts, a definitive assemblage of tracks documenting the Nottingham band’s clash of world beat-meets-post-punk. Turn the clock forward by a few months and further revisions have materialised, counting illustrious names like Red Axes, Prins Thomas and Khidja among the contributors.

Rugged and metallic, one of the most drastic transformations – Jamie Paton‘s fresh take on the sax-heavy ‘Take Me To The Beach’ – channels all the heady exoticism and experimentalism of the original into a dense, tribal drug chug, pushing those wailing vocals and saxophone right to the back of the mix.

Remixes Volume 2 is out now on Emotional Rescue / Malka Tuti – buy the vinyl here.
