A native of Bremen in northwest Germany, Qnete‘s previous releases include appearances on labels like Lobster Theremin, where he can be found trading between the boisterous and melodic in a seemingly effortless manner. Now returning to 777 Recordings after a cameo on the label’s C’est La Vii compilation, the Drowned Records co-owner appears to have nailed the formula with his Undesirable Circumstances EP.

‘Spittin” picks up right where he left off. Going at it hammer-and-tongs on the 808, Qnete layers insistent clap and rimshot patterns over his trance-inducing electronics. In a schizophrenic mix of discordant, vividly coloured bass synths, shimmering pads and pummelling drums, it’s almost reminiscent of early Night Slugs material. Everything bar the odd wisp of fluttering synth plays like percussion, only adding to the violent maelstrom brewing in its centre.

Undesirable Circumstances is out mid October via 777 Recordings.
