Secretsundaze offshoot SZE was conceived as an outlet for a more experimental brand of electronic music compared to the purer distillations of house and techno its parent label was known for. A pair of releases courtesy of Lo Shea and BLM dropped in 2015, but it has laid dormant ever since. That is, until now. Under new stewardship with Secretsundaze Studios manager and Way Back Here resident Luke Hopper at the helm, SZE has found a new lease of life, paving the way for Irish producer Frank Sweeney to deliver the label’s third release under his Sias alias.
Equipped with strapping percussion, the title track is cut from a similar cloth as the mutant strains of techno the former Twisted Pepper resident released last year on Dublin label, Jehri Tracks. Effects are used liberally throughout, from the delay-soaked synth hook to the heavily overdriven drums, but while none of it is subtle, the FX-driven nuances don’t overwhelm the mix. Punched in with plenty of emotion, the melody pushes the track into uncharted cerebral heights in a new, detailed-oriented approach.
