An overarching sentimentality offsets the tougher, severe moments on Thodén‘s return Electroménager. Making a third appearance on the Parisian imprint, where some of it marries razor-sharp sound design with deconstructed club motifs, thick clouds of ambient vapour on other tracks act as a softener to that outward abrasion.
‘Hyperreal’ is somewhere between the two: a high-def, misty-eyed fusion of searing, tough-as-nails club deconstruction and ambient drift, it comes brimming with emotive potential.
