Previous appearances from Vault have been limited to cameos on the Snuff Trax-affiliated In The Dark Again imprint, but taking their cues from EBM and coldwave, it seems they have found a second home of sorts on DJ Nephil’s Gravitational Waves. After a pair of 12″s consisting entirely of his own productions, Nephil’s third GW release is a compilation release with the Tennesseean duo occupying the B2 slot.

Unlike the measured approach taken on those aforementioned In The Dark Again compilations, ‘Up Through The Concrete’ is pure bedlam from the start. It’s techno heard through a distinct EBM filter, built for claustrophobic moments. With indiscernible vocals and regimented 707 patterns competing for space alongside screeching electronics and a snappy analogue bassline, there’s a new found physicality and vigour to the Vault blueprint.
