Hailing from Lisbon, Violet has been making waves in the vibrant Portuguese scene that are rippling ever wider. In two short year’s she’s co-founded online station Rádio Quântica, formed an all-girl rap crew in A.M.O.R, orchestrated an all-female cover of Underground Resistance classic ‘Transition’, produced and released alongside partner Photonz on their One Eyed Jacks label and now she’s formed her own imprint in Naive. From the ring modulated, wooping rave banger of ‘Togetherness’ to the swelling breaks of ‘Cloud 9’, the EP is a fully realised first release paying homage to jungle, hardcore and breakbeats, with BLEID sample-heavy fortification of the title track on remix duties.

A2 contribution ‘Silver Lining’ opens up with lush pads atop foundational 4/4 kick work. Climbing unhindered around a trellis of kicks, snares and hats, there’s room for dreamy synth work to breathe before the track drops into a full amen break. The synth work ebbs atmospherically as elongated horns sound out before a “jump wide” style vocal breakdown signals an amping up of the soundscape. Hollowed out chords sound out as the bass work flips to the second half of the bar, providing movement and variety in the phrasing as variations in Violet’s trilling hi-hat work mutate over the course of the track.

The Togetherness EP is out September 18th on Naive – pre-order the vinyl here.
