Frieze week commences, and like a Christmas yet for the “art world,” it brings along with it sickening amount of events and networking (free drinking) opportunities around London. Not to be missed, however, is the Annual General Meeting at Somerset House Studios this Friday night. The first of its kind, the AGM means that the studio is opening its doors, allowing resident artists to take over the Grade I listed former Admiralty HQ. It’s a rare opportunity for the public to be granted full run of the rabbit warren, with unprecedented access three floors-worth of private underground spaces offering film, music, pop-up bars and dancing.

The dilapidated Lower Lancaster Rooms DJ sets from Hyperdub founder Kode9, Beatrice Dillon and Marija Bozinovska Jones alongside an AV performance from Recsund (Quantum Natives) in the dilapidated Lower Lancaster Rooms, femme and non-binary collective Resis’dance will be taking over the former Inland Revenue office upstairs. Elsewhere, Peckham’s globally-minded Cotch International will make an appearance, while studio residents Jacob Samuel, hmurd and Brood Ma (Quantum Natives) take over the vaulted basement under Waterloo Bridge.

If that weren’t enough, Mica Levi, Coby Sey and the London Contemporary Orchestra will perform to mark the opening of Hannah Perry’s new solo exhibition, GUSH. There’s plenty more on offer too, from TBCTV (a visual installation and theatre art performance featuring artists Mel Brimfield, Ewan Jones Morris and Chloe Lamford), to video installations from MBJ Wetware and director duo Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (directors of Nick Cave documentary, 20,000 Days on Earth).

Nurturing a unique community of artists, musicians and makers which includes process-driven experimental producer Graham Dunning and techno collective Siren amongst its residents, this programme of events, workshops and exhibitions celebrates the progress of a new, exciting and crucial space for innovation within the realms of in art, music, subversion, technology and critical thinking.

Somerset House Studios host the AGM on Friday October 5th – buy tickets here.
