Sydney-born DJ and designer Steele Bonus is best-known for mining the fringes of electronic music, unearthing oddities and curiosities, forgotten gems most DJs wouldn’t be brave enough to play. Earning status as a firm favourite for music lovers with adventurous ears, those digging exploits have been distilled into various endeavours, most notably a Red Light Radio residency, the Odd Waves mix series and Oz Waves, a 10-track compilation that excavated criminally-overlooked DIY electronics for Noise In My Head subsidiary Efficient Space.

Now residing in Amsterdam, keeping a relatively low profile hasn’t prevented Steele from building a reputation as a conisseur of oddball sounds. It isn’t exclusively esoteric when he’s at the controls though. Reaching for leftfield shades of house, techno and electro alongside the comparatively weirder selections, excellent mixes for Melbourne Deepcast and Dekmantel are evidence of a lesser-known side to his musical identity. If you want to bear witness to this firsthand, he joins us and Field Work on Friday October 26th for an intimate party at London venue, The Glove That Fits. To tide you over until then, here’s a selection of Steele’s favourite ‘Odd Waves’ for your listening pleasure.
