Record Store Day is looming, but Londoners used to frequenting Soho’s increasingly popular annual street party have had their plans ruined by Westminster Council. That’s right, road works in the near vicinity mean that all the outdoor festivities that draw thousands to Soho on RSD have been cancelled. Local vinyl emporium Phonica will still host it’s usual in-store, but it’s likely to be rammed, so beware!

Don’t sweat though – we’ve got your back! While many have flocked to Soho each year, there’s a plethora of outstanding alternatives dotted around London. We’ve chosen a few of the standout events, and with many only a walking distance apart, you can wander the streets of Hackney or Southwark, hopping from shop to shop.

There isn’t much that causes frustration for independent labels quite like Record Store Day, so it’s great to see stores supporting the little guy. As champions of the independent, you won’t see shelves littered with Blur represses, but crucial releases from some of the world’s most exciting underground communities. RSD may divide opinion, but the increased footfall is certainly a good thing. With London’s finest preparing to draw crowds with some mouthwatering in-stores on Saturday, there’s no excuse not to get involved.
