Bandcamp have announced their ‘Bandcamp Friday’ series will continue until the end of the year. Initially conceived to help combat the loss of touring income for artists, it has since paved the way for compilations where proceeds are earmarked for charitable donation, and waiving their fees for 24-hours at a time, fan have spent over $75 million on the platform since its inception.
With August 7th, September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th and December 4th confirmed, we singled out several standout charitable contributions ahead of its return this week (you can check last month’s selections here).
Operating as a space that encourages DIY spirit and sonic ingenuity, SET asked artists affiliated with the London-based venue for music made in isolation. The resulting compilation spans a myriad of genres in its celebration of exploratory music.
Who’s on it: Bianca Scout, A Psychic Yes, Ben Vince
Where’s the money going: All proceeds will be donated to City Harvest
Glasgow’s Craigie Knowes leave few stones unturned on the fourth instalment of their War Child fundraiser series. Touching on ambient, downtempo, techno and electro, it’s a fitting introduction to a label that’s emerged as something of a bastion for such sounds.
Who’s on it: Eluize, Rudolf C, Warlock, Stellar OM Source, No Moon, DJ Python
Where’s the money going: All proceeds will be donated to War Child UK
The functional and esoteric collide on this bumper 28-track compilation from London’s Twin System crew. Digi-dub mutations sit well alongside amorphous ambient, bleepy techno, and oh, so much more.
Who’s on it: Otik, Hajj, Yohei S., Daniel 58, Mucho Sueño, DJ Pitch
Where’s the money going: All proceeds will be donated to Brixton Soup Kitchen
RAMZi called on friends to breathe new life into tracks from her recent release, cocoon. It marks the first time her verdant and balmy “twopikal bounce” has been reinterpreted, and we hope it isn’t the last.
Who’s on it: Francis Inferno Orchestra, D. Tiffany, Bear Bones Lay Low, River Yarra, NAP, Priori, Regular Fantasy
Where’s the money going: All proceeds will be donated to Cendre Social d’Aide aux Immigrants in Montreal
Weapons-grade sludge, fetid dancefloor curiosities and wave experiments gathered from the fringes. Compiled by The Black Lodge in Los Angeles, it’s menacing, to say the least, and definitely not for the faint of heart.
Who’s on it: Grey People, L/F/D/M, DJ Nephil, LBEEZE, R Gamble
Where’s the money going: All proceeds from physical sales and all digital sales during the month of July will be donated to the Central American Resource Center
London-based promoters Co-Select bottled the feeling of what their parties bring across this 19-track compilation. Leftfield shades of acid and electro into experimental electronics, it’s one to whet appetites ahead of the next dance (whenever that may be).
Who’s on it: Ambient Babestation Meltdown, Ikävä Pii, BLEID
Where’s the money going: Part of the proceeds will go to the UK QTIBIPOC Emergency relief & Hardship Fund
