Rainforest house, wave-influenced disco, chugging acid and much more…
A one-time bassist for Latin no wave band Konk, Jonny Sender offers up 3 tracks he released on Jungle Sounds Records way back in 1993. With full-bodied, rounded bass tones, birdsong and lush synth work, these tracks, recorded in collaboration with vocalist Davidrex X, have likely influenced a few of the current crop of house producers dabbling in rainforest sounds.
Radio Quantica co-founder Violet comes through with a drum-heavy freebie. Here’s what she had to say about the edit:
“I found the original track, ‘Conga Sin Palabras’, in a compilation I bought at Flashback Records in Angel, London. Further research indicates the band is from Cuba and the track was originally released on an album titled ‘House of Drums’ in 1998.
When I head it i fell in love with the piano, which reminded me of classic house, and loved the percussion and flutey/vocal-ey synths. All I did was take out some melody bits I wasn’t crazy about, plus a little clean-up to the arrangement – I also added length, some hats and a stronger kick to make it more dancefloor-friendly.”
Christmas might have been and gone, but we had to share this free compilation from chug connoisseurs 44,100Hz Social Club. In an effort to thank all who have supported the channel they served up 17 tracks, offering everything from acid courtesy of Ess O Ess member Jamie Blanco to a Naked Lunch remix by recent Multi Culti debutant, Bird Of Paradise.
Club Bizarre transform a slice of wave-inspired dark disco into a heady and insistent dancefloor bomb. A curveball of sorts from the Gallic duo, it comes complete with surging bass synth and a noodling melody that comes into effect during the latter stages.
