Ethereal downtempo, tape saturated house, 16,000 sound effect samples and plenty more…

BBC Sound Effects

Still in beta testing phase, the BBC have released 16,000 sound effects under the RemArc Licence, meaning you can download them for free. This is, of course, providing they’re used specifically for “personal, educational or research purposes.” Not what we’d usually feature in this column, but thought it was worth the inclusion. After all, who wouldn’t want to sample the “three single shutter clicks” of a 35 mm SLR or the sound of “water lapping over pebbles”?

Aimes – 6:15

Wonder Stories founder and resident “head taco eater” Aimes makes this Chi-Town referencing, trancey little groover a free download via his Soundcloud page.

S. Channel – She Came From Chroma

S. Channel‘s latest freebie, a cinematic slice of downtempo, sees massaging pads descend like an ethereal mist.

DimDJ feat Venus Volcanism – Believe The Lie

Desolate, distant and sporting Venus Volcanism‘s shouty post-punk vocals, strutting DimDJ cut ‘Believe The Lie’ originally featured on an exclusive Record Store Day cassette from S48 Coffeece.

Mufti – Kill The Revolution

In good company following contributions from the likes of Sneaker and Il Est Vilane, Mufti jumps on the Mange Moi-curated edit series. The Guadalajaran producer delivers a keeper too, reworking 1990’s ‘Kill The Revolution’ by French EBM/electro outfit, What’s.

Gloved Hands – Come Up Here

A totally unknown quantity, fresh-faced producer Gloved Hands serves up some nostalgic, tape saturated house as a free download.
