As the uninhibited sounds of industrial, EBM and cold wave and find a new audience, Keith McIvor AKA JD Twitch has renewed a love affair dating back to when he began DJing in 1987. This has manifested itself in a number of ways in the past twelve or so months; one being when The Vinyl Factory called on McIvor to compile an album of dancefloor oddities last September. They named it after So Low – the semi-regular party he runs in Glasgow alongside Iona Fortune, Becky Marshall and Katie Shambles – and both serve as a platform for McIvor to indulge his fascination with those early precursors to modern electronic music. Never content with just looking backwards, however, So Low will also serve as the name for a new sub-label of Optimo Music, the label McIvor co-owns with Jonnie ‘JG’ Wilkes.

Entitled Full Ashram Devotional Ceremony Volumes IV-VI, the inaugural Slow Low release is a five-track album from Happy Meals, a Glaswegian duo whose previous outings have landed on Michael Kasparis’ Night School Records. With touches of kosmiche and cold wave it’s touted as an LP “for large soundsystem use only,” but one that listeners should experience in its entirety for “full salvation.”

Full Ashram Devotional Ceremony Volumes IV-VI is out June 16th on Sub Low – pre-order the vinyl here.
