Shlagga is key proponent of his local scene. Something of a figurehead for Marseille’s alternative sound, the Metaphore Collectif co-founder is a champion of the unfettered and unbridled. His background in punk, grunge, metal, ’90s techno and musique concrète is symptomatic of a fuck-off attitude that pervades almost everything, but so is his involvement in Antifa activism. Both fuel a raw, combustible and uncompromising approach to music.
The mix offers up moments ominous and sinister. It’s also trance-inducing in places, capable of sending dancefloors into collective states of hypnosis. Where overwhelming volleys of chug make way for a monolithic and overdriven onslaught, Shlagga’s eventual reprise of those hypnotic, conscious-expanding sounds brings us home.
