Our first taste of Luxxuryproblems came on a compilation from Cologne’s SPA Recordings, nestled alongside tracks from the likes of Garland, Peter Graf York and Bear Bones, Lay Low. Little did we know it signalled the beginning of a high-concept journey exploring themes of information and sensory overload. The debut proper, Inhale, Aerosol, Recovery (Non Sequitur) isn’t only an official introduction to the German artist’s subversive outlook, but an intersection of the seemingly disparate genres explored in his music: hints of trap, trance, industrial, deconstructed club and ambient can be heard over its 10-track duration.
‘Fluence, Granulate, Opaque (Bio-Neon)’ is a collage of avant-garde experimentalism. A hugely immersive lament rendered with maximalist sound design, the track cycles through clanging metallic flourishes and surging textures. Sometimes the maelstrom moves violently enough to resemble the combustion chambers of a piston engine, while swells of aerated synth evoke the beauty of a supernova.
Inhale, Aerosol, Recovery (Non Sequitur) is out now on SPA Recordings.
