DJ, digger and curator supreme, soFa achieved cult status with a flurry of compilation releases. Leaving no stone unturned in its quest to shine a light upon oddities new and old,  the Elsewhere series has featured bizarre takes on children’s music through Music For Dreams, sweltering Balearic on Crevette Records and acid-tinged chug for Kalahari Oyster Cult. He first came to our attention with reissues for Finders Keepers and Sub Rosa, but launching in 2017, this following wave of releases solidified an already burgeoning reputation.

soFa’s Mameen 3 project with Moroccan producer Cheb Runner has garnered plenty of attention in its own right. The duo came together in a shared appreciation for Raï, the rebel folk sound of Algeria, and Middle Eastern psychedelia, taking a “no boundaries no borders” approach that melds a broad spectrum of influences. Acid Arab’s marriage of Arabic music and techno tropes is a pretty decent reference point for the Mameen 3 sound, with elements of Balearic, boogie, machine funk, reggae and disco thrown into the melting pot.

soFa’s versatility has seen him booked for the likes of Nyege Nyege Festival, Lente Kabinet, Fusion Festival and Horst. The living embodiment of a DJ’s DJ, this mix is a pretty decent approximation of what to expect.
