In the wake of the Ghost Ship fire that tragically took the lives of 36 people back in 2016, 100% Silk artist Maya Bouldry-Morrison, AKA Octo Octa, was quoted saying how the label’s founders not only “took chances on upcoming and brand-new artists,” but also “supported and helped build the careers of many talented people when others would pass them by.” It’s testament to Amanda and Britt Brown’s willingness to go beyond the call of duty for their friends and peers; something that has been echoed through the unveiling of Silk To Dry The Tears, a benefit compilation where half of the profits will go to the Safer DIY Spaces coalition.

With names like Jupiter Jax, Octo Octa, James Booth and Bobby Browser littering the tracklist, the 31-track tape compilation features contributions from virtually every artist to grace the label. There are a few new faces as well, including Optimo Music mainstays, Golden Teacher. A product of Glasgow’s iconic Green Door Studio, ‘Four Faces’ sees the genre-defying six-piece ditch their usual leftfield, dancefloor-facing fare for something a little more horizontal. An amalgam of percolating electronics and horizon-spanning pads, it’s easy to loose yourself within its many layers.

Silk To Dry The Tears is out February 9th on 100% Silk – pre-order direct from the label.
