Dutch imprint Knekelhuis continue in their vein of playful esotericism on their twenty-third outing. Introducing Jean-Luc, a newly-formed collaboration between Luc Bersier, Low Bat, Leonard Prochazka and Ariel Garcia, this vibrant EP seems to scale the expanses of the European landscape with a confident synergy; mapping along the way elements of new-wave, punk, and neo-folk krautrock.
In a mood laden EP, ‘Inspiration’ offers an overtly atmospheric outing, chugging along with a cinematic aesthetic amplified by bluesy guitar. The result is a drugged-up trip through some Nevadan inferno. The arid geography of ‘Inspiration’ is somewhere between 2 tabs of acid and Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian. Their uncanny ability to paint these imaginary landscapes makes ‘Inspiration’ the most emotive track on the EP and perhaps the highlight.
Des litres d’essence is out June 14th on Knekelhuis – pre-order here.
