Cong Burn might have introduced the world to the now critically-acclaimed Lanark Artefax, but three years on, it’s an ongoing series of 4-track compilations which really seems to be cementing the Manchester label’s reputation. Growing into a reliable outlet for hazy, deep and often dubby distillations of house, techno and electro, the rich vein of form shows no signs of abating either as founder John Howes lines up the latest instalment, complete with tracks from emergent artists Chekov, Flaty, Martinou and Lack.

Almost reminiscent of Hessle-era Objekt with its stripped-back framework and hybrid sensibility, ‘Multiplier’ is primed for the warmup set. As whirrs, chimes and drones accent the taught rhythm like splashes of colour on an otherwise monochrome canvas, it’s a good example of how the whole can be so much greater than the sum of its parts.

Cong Burn 04 is out December 17th on Cong Burn – pre-order direct from the label.
