Indulging in the type of cloak-and-dagger myth-making normally reserved for the likes of Richard D. James, AKA Aphex Twin, Global Warming Records‘ latest release is the handiwork of a “mysterious orange-suited man.” No clues offered here as to who it is, a social media teaser only serves to ramp up the mystery.
Animating the debut with an electrified amalgam of ambient techno and trap, the music is legitimately innovative. Bringing a vitality that never dims, opening gambit ‘Q-lpabilities’ pairs seismic low-end with undulating synths that pulse iridescent. Languid breaks provide the momentum for a surging slow-burn that reveals new depth and detail with every listen.
