Shrouded in fog, there’s a palpable sense of tension hanging in the air as every beat of the kick drum rises like a monolith at the centre of the mix. An amorous lament conjuring images of a nighttime drive through scenes of urban decay, a saxophone calls out longingly in its two-note refrain.
From the sprawling metropolis emerges a six-track compilation with its roots in Toronto’s DIY rave scene as local collective Forth ready their first release. Ciel and Gingy are drafted in to help christen the label alongside a clutch of tracks from the inner sanctum, including a sullen techno workout from Opal Tapes affiliate ‘R’ we’re premiering today.
Forth – Vol. 1 is out February 10th – pre-order direct from the label.
