Phoebé Guillemot, AKA RAMZi, has been cultivating her deep and balmy ecosystem of psychoactive electronica for the better part of 5 years. Drawing from the inspiration-spiked shoals of Vancouver, BC, an already impressive back catalogue boasts of slabs on Mood Hut, Total Stasis and 12th Isle to name a few, but she breaks new ground with the latest effort.
Multiquest Niveau 1: Camouflé sees Guillemot collaborate with Suzanne Kraft and Priori for the first instalment of a new series comprising “11 quests, each one taking place on a different landscape, always championing interspecies harmony.” Keeping within the shaded RAMZi Realm, fellow beats are treated to a primordial soup of bonks, drum machine interference, French spoken word mid-cellular mutation and and endless flock of angry birds. It’s the closest you may actually get to hearing what it would be like to step into a NatGeo magazine having taken a rather effective dose of psilocybin.
‘Rubicon’ is one of those trips between the slurry and dirt. Equipped with strong, loping rhythm, it’s a strange marriage of dub, lounge and field recording, saturated by the new age synth ephemera of Froese, Czukay and Ciani; more chillout thump than weaponising anthem.
