You can count on the ever-anomalous Sam Forsberg, AKA Samo DJ, for an idiosyncratic jaunt around ambits of the underground. Whichever operative medium he explores – whether that be DJing or production – the Born Free co-founder’s approach is typified by an admix of slow but disorientating dramatics. His next outing will be on Antipodean imprint Bizarro, following up their debut release with Roza Terenzi earlier this year.
To Aperion is a deeply aesthetic EP with Forsberg’s cinematic sensibilities culminating in what is best described as a score for the dancefloor. Our cut is ‘Folie’; inaugurating the EP with industrial stabs of existential dread, these dark mnemonic evocations of science fiction succumb to a lighter composition as we progress. The transition is cultured by infectious jingling high hats with a distinctly Eastern dialect. As textured, slow-burning beginnings give way to climactic finish it’s easy to imagine it in a filmatic context, scoring the exploits of some android in post-human misadventure.
To Apeiron is out September 27th on Bizarro – pre-order here.
