Following excavations from Portugal, Japan and beyond, Australia’s Strangelove Music turns its attention closer to home. Selected Works 1983-86 gathers music from obscure synth-pop outfit Scribble, and just like the compilations on Efficient Space, it goes some way to celebrate what remains an under-appreciated chapter of Australian music.
Spanning 6 tracks, the opening cut sets course on an imagined boat ride through hazy vistas. ‘River’ is dubby daydream Balearica propelled by reverb-drenched sax. Antipodean archivists serving up a bit of DIY from Down Under, the latest Strangelove retrospective makes perfect sense.
