Taking cues from the masterfully crafted downtempo/electronica of Board of Canada and Aphex Twin’s horizontal leanings, Steven Kudla evokes “a very raw and natural feeling” on his Origin Peoples debut. An assemblage of unrehearsed, spur-of-the-moment jams and recordings made across multiple studio sessions, Breakfast for 2 embarks on a warm and emotional journey, bathing eardrums in Kudla’s lo-fi exploration of funk, ambient, new age and Balearica.

Running live guitar and analogue synth through his tape deck, ‘Sihgret’s undulating, beatless arrangement finds the Canadian artist at his most tranquil. Like the fond, distant memory of holidays bygone, it breezes gently through the subconscious, a zephyr kicking up sand on some Mediterranean beach.

Breakfast for 2 is out January 20th on Origin Peoples – pre-order direct from the label.
