A weekly rundown of mixes and radio shows we’ve been enjoying…
Celebrating queer culture in Amsterdam, Dance With Pride was established after Ahmed Mahamed and Aura Lydon decided the gay community was somewhat underrepresented at Dekmantel (which happens to fall on the same weekend as Pride). Now they’ve started a Red Light Radio show, paving the way for a head-to-head between two heavyweights in Objekt and DJ Stingray.
Champion of the Balearic beat, International Feel boss Mark Barrott has been putting in the work to prove that Ibiza hasn’t been completely lost to the soulless superclubs of San Antonio. Now living on the White Isle, his label curation, sets at Hostal La Torre and Sketches From An Island albums are indicative of a shared desire to preserve the spirit that legendary DJs Alfredo and Leo Mas cultivated back in the late ’80s. It’s going to be a while before we see some warm weather again in the UK, but Barrott’s horizontal and transportive blend for i-D‘s ‘Slumber Session’ series is the perfect tonic.
Former White Little Earbuds contributor Justin Cudmore caught our attention with a playful pair of acid-tinged EPs, released on Honey Soundystem’s HNYTRX label and The Bunker New York respectively. He also made a guest appearance on a recent edition of DJ Haus’ UTTU Rinse FM show.
If you’ve followed our output over the last year or so, you probably know that we’re big fans of the Adelaide-based reissue outlet, Isle Of Jura Records. In a coming together of great Antipodean minds, label owner Jura Soundsystem made a guest appearance on the “freeform sonic excursion” that is Michael Kucyk’s Noise In My Head show.
Leisureware, the man behind one of our favourite If-Only podcasts to date, back on the buttons for an off-kilter blend. In the words of the man himself, it’s a mix for all occasions, whether you’re “blasting across the alkali flats in a jet-powered, monkey-navigated speeder or tidying your room…”
